Things to Do with Kids in Istanbul: Tünel.

This morning, not long after I had fallen asleep following Neve's three am (ish) feed, Anton woke up with the words 'I want to go on a monorail'. His transport obsession is (typically) epic. Luckily, thanks to living in Istanbul, a monorail is one of the few things we can't offer him. One of his favourite transport fixes is Tünel, the 140 year old funicular  that makes the steep hill between Karaköy and Istiklal Street an exciting prospect, especially if you are three. We usually spend half an hour at each end just in case we begin to seem a little strange missing ride after ride, although as Anton is flapping his arms in delight it is probably fairly obvious why we are camped out next to the rails. The best thing is that, in funicular style, trains depart from the opposite ends at the same time, so there is always something to flap about.
